GCSE Results 2017

Woolwich Poly maintains outstanding GCSE results

Woolwich Poly maintains outstanding GCSE results despite the uncertainty in the new grading system for both English and maths. These results are testament to the dedication of the staff, a sustained effort from students and continued support from parents and carers.

71% of students have achieved a standard pass (4+) in English and maths with 53% securing a strong pass (5+). We are confident that these results mean that we continue to be well above the national averages.

The 'high-end' performance for English and maths has been outstanding, even though the exams were much harder this year. Eight students secured a 9 in English: this is the very highest grade possible and, likewise, 30% of students achieved an exceptional pass in maths.

There were some amazing individual performances, including:

Student English Language English Literature Maths All other departments
David Olaseinde 9 8 8 1A* & 6As
Owen Clive 8 8 8 2 A*s & 5 As
Momodou Bah 9 7 8 1 A* & 4 As
Ali Ahmad 9 9 5 2 As & 6 Bs

Co-Head Teachers Byron Parker and Tim Plumb said, "We are incredibly proud of the accomplishments of our students; they have risen to the challenges this year with resilience and determination and, as a result, they have succeeded in possibly the hardest GCSE exams for decades. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff, governors, and, of course, the students themselves for their sheer hard work."
