Course Entry Requirement

6 in History GCSE, 6 in English

Course Overview

Students will complete a breadth and depth study over two years. This will involve:

  • studying a British history option
  • studying a non-British history option

Breadth study: 1D Stuart Britain and the Crisis of Monarchy, 1603 - 1702
Depth study: 2Q The American Dream: reality and illusion, 1945 - 1980

Students are expected to take responsibility for recording notes in class and to extend their in-class learning by researching and reading around topics. They will be expected to make regular use of the materials provided in the shared group files (see below).


  • Regular assessment in class
  • Minimum of one extended essay per week for homework
  • PPEs in Years 12 and 13
  • Teacher assessment every half term
  • Progress is tracked centrally on A Level tracker for department

External exams:

AS: Two written exams, written exam: 1 hour 30 minutes each
A2: Two written exams, 2 hours 30 minutes each, coursework essay of c 3000 - 4000 words

Support Materials

Years 12 and 13 have a dedicated email group where resources and revision are regularly uploaded (including revision guides and links to useful history documentaries).

Students can also purchase copies of the textbooks used in lesson if they choose.

A2 intervention, Wednesday 3.15pm - 4.15pm (we are also hoping to run AS intervention for both A2 and AS on a Monday - further details to be arranged).
