  • Chinese New Year 2023

    Happy Chinese New Year to all the families within our School community from everyone at Woolwich Polytechnic School for Boys!

    Chinese New Year, also known as Lunar New Year, is the most important festival in China & a major event in some East Asian countries.

    The Chinese New Year is often called the Lunar New Year or the Spring Festival. These names are in relation to the use of the lunisolar calendar to determine when the next Chinese New Year will fall, as well as the celebration of warmer weather and new growth.

    For 2023, the Chinese New Year will start on Sunday 22 January and celebrates the Year of the Rabbit.

  • Curriculum Spotlight on... Biology

    During lessons this week students in Year 10 were looking at the structures and functions of the mammalian heart.

    Students used scalpels and dissecting scissors to open the hearts looking at the ventricles, atria and the heart valves.

    PolyMAT is looking to appoint a well organised, efficient and enthusiastic Governance Professional who will work closely with Trustees, Local Academy Committees and the Trust Executive in achieving our strategic and statutory responsibilities. Working alongside the Executive Director of Innovation & Systems, you will support us in providing an excellent service for governance across the Trust.

    About the role:

    This is a critical role for the Trust as it will support Trustees in delivering on their statutory responsibilities, including through its subcommittees and the Local Academy Committees (LACs). Alongside the Executive Director of Innovation & Systems, you will deliver an efficient and effective clerking service for the (at present) two LACs. You will work with the Local Academy Committees to ensure that each LAC is enabled to work within its Terms of Reference and the Trust’s Scheme of Delegation, to deliver on its local responsibilities. You will be instrumental in providing professional guidance and advice to the LACs, supporting meetings and ensuring they receive comprehensive and effective administrative support in line with NGA standards.

    vacancy - DESIGNATED SPECIALIST PROVISION LEARNING SUPPORT ASSISTANT

    We are looking for a reliable and committed Learning Support Assistant for Woolwich Polytechnic School for Boys to support within our Designated Specialist Provision.  The ideal applicant will have experience of working with students with Autism and/or Moderate Learning Difficulties with the qualities, skills and drive necessary to fulfil this role. The successful candidate will work under the overall supervision of the Head of DSP, and under the guidance of the HLTA.

    Woolwich Poly DSP is for students with an EHCP and a diagnosis of Autism and Moderate Learning Difficulties.  The aim is to provide students with the best possible learning environment to meet their individual needs for students to develop social, independent skills and gain qualifications relevant to their next steps.

    Woolwich Polytechnic School for Boys are seeking to appoint a skilled and enthusiastic Technician to join the Science Department. The post holder will play a vital role in the high quality of science teaching in the school and will contribute to the success of the department.     Woolwich Polytechnic School for Boys are looking to appoint a motivated and inspiring Cover Supervisor to take on the supervision of a class of pupils in the absence of a teacher.

    The successful applicant will have the ability to work with students whilst undertaking the work set and ensure a constructive and ordered learning environment. It is essential that you demonstrate experience of building positive working relationships with young people and communicating with teachers to achieve positive outcomes for students.
