Year 11 Historians Explore Shakespeare’s Globe

On Friday 26th September, Year 11 Historians headed to the Globe Theatre. As part of their AQA GCSE, our Historians will be asked their largest mark question, all about the Globe. This could focus on its history, its design, or reasons for the development of the theatre in Elizabethen England. Students took part in a tour of the Globe which was followed by a workshop tailored to their exam board, AQA. Through the analysis of 16th century maps and reports from Londoners at the time, our Year 11s walked away with secure knowledge of how and why theatres developed in the period but why specifically at the site where the Globe Theatre now stands.
Thankfully, too, the location of the Globe Theatre was a stone's throw away from the replica of Sir Francis Drakes' ship, the Golden Hinde, giving our Historians another opportunity to visit an aspect of the Elizabethan course, discussing Drake's circumnavigation and the growth of exploration under Elizabeth I.
