Academic life at Woolwich Poly is rich and varied, and offers a range of experience for all students.
Undoubtedly, our exam success is the result of our broad and balanced curriculum, not just in the classroom, but also beyond. Our curriculum is student focussed, fully inclusive, yet providing the challenge and rigor to allow students to achieve the very best examination outcomes.
The National Curriculum guides the formal curriculum at Key Stage 3. The boys choose their examination subjects during year 8 and study these from the start of year 9. Our Key Stage 4 offer is varied with a combination of GCSE and vocational subjects. Subject choices are carefully guided to ensure that students achieve their best and this allows for progression to sixth form, colleges or apprenticeships.
Personal development and careers advice is extremely important and the students are offered an excellent programme throughout their lives at the Poly. The programme is responsive to the needs of the different age groups, and what is happening in wider society. Various visiting speakers, theatre companies, workshops and assemblies ensure that ours students become well rounded, responsible and, as individuals, are ready for life beyond school.
Our enrichment programme enables students to broaden their knowledge, skills and experiences. From clubs, day trips and residential trips, there is something for everyone beyond the classroom!
All students will be required to be equipped with the following:
These are supplied to all students. Planners are used for students to record their homework and to provide a place for communication between parents/carers and teachers.
Form Tutors sign the diaries weekly and we ask that parents do the same.
Planners will need to be replaced if they are lost, damaged or defaced. The cost of a new Planner is £5.00.
