We are delighted with this year’s GCSE results and incredibly proud of our students. It just goes to prove that all the hard work pays off. The results across the core subjects of English, Maths and Science are incredibly strong and these results are replicated across a range of foundation subjects.
Over 73% of pupils achieved grade 4+ in English and Maths, and an amazing 100% of pupils achieved grade 4+ in Physics. We expect these results to put us well above the national averages for boys.
54% of pupils achieved a strong pass (Grade 5+) in both Mathematics and English GCSEs. These figures show a 10-percentage point increase on last year’s results.
This year, the highest number of students achieved an exceptional pass (9-7) with notable departments being: English 20%, Maths 30%, Economics 37%, Biology 59%, Chemistry 65% and Physics 74%. Amongst these departments, there were a significant number of grade 9s, normally the highest possible grade and A* distinction which is even higher than a 9.
There were some notable individual results including: Zacchaeus O who obtained 7 level 9s, 2 level 8s and an A* distinction. Tawyeeb S who obtained 5 level 9s, 3 level 8s, 1 level 7, 1 level 6 and an A* distinction. Other exceptional students were Raheem O, Olaotan O, Fredrick D and Hast H.
Headteacher Tim Plumb said, “I am delighted that our students have achieved such great results: they really deserve them. We are all very proud of them and wish them well for the future. A large proportion of our students are now able to move to the next phase of their education, many opting to stay at Woolwich Poly to study their A Levels before moving on to higher education. Such popularity is a reflection of the tremendous work and dedication of staff at the school.”
Progress measures look set to be exceptional when national data is released in the autumn term. We expect to be in the top 10% of the country for English, Maths, Science, Computing and Photography and the top 1% of the country for Physics and Economics; this is truly exceptional.
Well done to everyone!
