Updated Legislation on RSE (Relationships and Sex Education)

As you may be aware, the Government has released updated legislation on RSE (Relationships and Sex Education) in which “All schools will teach children about good physical and mental health, how to stay safe on and offline, and the importance of healthy relationships”. As a school we already cover a wide variety of themes in our PD lessons each week, including PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic education) topics such as diversity, tolerance, relationships, puberty, consent and respect – all taught in an age appropriate manner whereby students gain more knowledge an insight on the topics each year. The changes in legislation do not change a great deal of our curriculum, however there will be more emphasis on relationships; including lessons about why and who we love, different types of relationship, sexual relationships and responsibility, contraception, consent, abortion and the law associated with all of this.
